Cops: Two injured as driver loses control of car, hits tree

Two men were injured Wednesday when a driver, heading west on Route 25 in Southold “at a high rate of speed,” lost control while rounding a curve and slammed into a tree, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Alexander Rivera, 34, lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Tuckers Lane at 4:36 p.m., going off the roadway and hitting the tree.

He and Roberto Romera, 48, of Greenport, were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital with unspecified injuries, police said. Another passenger in the vehicle, Juan Perez, 36, of Greenport, was not injured, police said.

No charges were filed in the accident, police said.
