Frederic R. Ryder, 71

Frederic R. Ryder, of Riverhead, died Sept. 30, 2014 after a long illness. He was 71 years old.

Born in Brooklyn on July 6, 1943, he was the son of Alfred and Dorothy Ryder.

Ryder served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967 and fought in Vietnam. He was a longtime employee of Cablevision and retired as a human resources manager in 2007.

Ryder lived for many years in Riverhead, where he was active in the Riverhead VFW.

He was predeceased by his wife Starr in August 2012 and is survived by his step-children, Maureen Brown, of Calverton, Tim Wilson and Debbie Wilson, both of Riverhead, by his grandchildren, Cassidy and Logan Brown, of Calverton, and by his siblings, Martha and Alan Ryder, of North Carolina.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at the American Legion, 89 Hubbard Avenue, Riverhead, on Monday, Oct. 13, beginning at 3 p.m. Interment of his cremated remains will be at Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.
