Update: Puppy found dead in garbage bag in Laurel woods was shot

Update: 4 p.m.: The puppy found dead in Laurel was shot, according to North Fork Animal Welfare League staffer Gabrielle Stroup.

After being examined at North Fork Animal Hospital, where an exam and X-ray were done, two pellets were found inside the pup, a 12-week-old border collie.

“She was shot,” Stroup said. After speaking with SPSCA, Stroup said little can be done until the dog’s owner is found. “Please help us get more information so we can get justice for this baby,” she said.

Original story: The North Fork Animal Welfare League is asking for help to find whoever left a puppy dead in the Laurel Lake Preserve.

The puppy was found in the woods Friday, in a black garbage back filled with sand.

“Please, if you know anything about this puppy call us 631-765-1811 ext 1,” NFAWL reps said in a Facebook post.
