Cops: Woman stole purses from a church

A Mattituck woman was cuffed after police said she was caught stealing purses from a church.

According to Southold Town Police, Sibel I. Pumillo, 25, was arrested and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church on Legion Avenue in Mattituck.

Two female employees of the church had reported that their purses had been stolen from the lobby, police said. Through investigation it was discovered that Pumillo had been inside the church earlier in the day and taken the property, police said.

Pumillo was transported to police headquarters where she was held overnight for court.
