Shelter needs help digging out the dogs

Snow days are for the dogs — and the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic needs help digging out so the pups can frolic in the drifts.

“We need some help shoveling our doggies out,” said a post on the NFAWL Facebook page today. “Coffee and tea are hot. Please bring your shovel and help. The doggies will be so happy to go out and play.”

Gabrielle Stroup of the NFAWL said even in the height of the storm yesterday, she and another staffer braved the snow and headed to the shelter to feed and care for the animals. “We stayed with them, then tucked them in for the night,” Stroup said.

She added that anyone who comes to help should bring their own shovel because they don’t have extras.

The North Fork Animal Welfare League is located at 269 Peconic Lane in Peconic. For additional information call (631) 765-1811.
