Cops: Riverhead woman charged with DWI after stop in Mattituck

A 37-year-old Riverhead resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Mattituck early this morning.

Southold Town Police said a 2003 Mazda Sedan driven by Paula X. Valencia was observed failing to maintain its lane of travel on Route 25 near Wagon Wheel Lane at approximately 2:20 this morning.

Police said Valencia was found to have a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, had blood-shot, glassy eyes and was unsteady on her feet. She failed standard field sobriety tests and a pre-screen breath test administered by the investigating officer, according to a police press release issued this morning.

Valencia was also found to be driving with a suspended license, police said.

She was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was processed and held for morning arraignment, according to the press release.
