Section XI released the playoff brackets Tuesday morning. A few local teams will be in action.

Boys Basketball

Southold (8-6 league VIII, 10-8 overall) received the No. 3 seed in the “C” bracket and they’ll travel to No. 2 Pierson on Thursday for a 6:15 p.m. tip.

The Settlers will have to rely on Liam Walker to get them to advance to the next round against No. 1 Stony Brook. Walker is averaging 18.9 points per game.

Pierson (9-5, 10-8) won both regular season games against Southold, both by double digits.

Girls Basketball

Both Mattituck and Southold/Greenport made the playoffs. Though they’re in different leagues, they will face off in the first round of the “B” bracket.

No. 4 Mattituck (7-3 league VII, 9-9 overall) will host No. 5 Southold/Greenport (7-3 league VIII, 9-7 overall) on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.

With the emergence of freshman Lizzie Dwyer, the Tuckers will be tough to beat. She led the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. Not too far behind is Katie Hoeg, the University of North Carolina lacrosse recruit, who is good for 13 points and nine rebounds a game.

The Clippers are led by sophomore phenom Madison Tabor who will surely drive defenders crazy with her innate ability to steal the ball and drive to the basket for constant scoring opportunities. She averaged 17.8 points per game.

The two teams played in an out-of-conference game on December 8 in Mattituck. The Tuckers won that game, 53-25.

Admission to all playoff games is $4.
