Local musician performs at White House Easter Egg Roll

Local favorite musician Brady Rymer brought his own brand of magic to the 137th annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House Monday.

According to Bridget Rymer, Brady’s wife, over 35,000 people were expected to attend the yearly event, which takes place on the White House lawn.

“There are sweet family activities throughout, and two stages with music and other performances throughout the day,” she said.

This is the second year that Rymer, who lives in Southold, has been invited to play; this year, Bridget said she was able to attend, too.

Rymer performed with Hip Hop Public Health, an organization that released a compilation album of health-oriented songs last year; the project was produced by Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative. A special “Let’s Move” edition of Brady’s song “Jump Up (It’s a Good Day)” is included on the album.

“He played that song today with his bandmate Claudia Mussen, and invited kids onstage to jump, clap and sing along,” she said.

Rymer said, via email, that he was “proud to be associated with this great group, which includes legendary Old School artists like Doug E. Fresh and Artie Green, as well as new young talents like Ryan Beatty and Cam Anthony — all of whom performed today.” He added that he “loves being part of this positive, energetic, spirited group of artists with a great message.”

This year, the theme of the Easter Egg Roll was #GimmeFive, celebrating the five-year anniversary of the “Let’s Move” initiative, “so it was particularly fun and meaningful to be part of it,” Rymer said.
