Clara M. Coffey of East Patchogue died May 9, 2015. She was 85 years old.
Coffey was born on August 31, 1929 in North Carolina to Adolphus Smith and Bertha Bonner.
She received her education in Pitt County, attending G. R. Whitfield and Grimes Land Schools before graduating in 1947. She was a member of the high school basket team. She went on to work at Fairchild in Bellport as a supervisor.
She was predeceased by her father, Freddie Coffey Sr.; mother, Bertha Smith; sisters, Hazel Howard, Pearl Garrison and Lucy Hawkins; brother, Tilton Smith and son, Freddie Coffey Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Frances Jeffers of Bridgehampton, Marilyn Darden of Florida, Sharon Coffey of Riverhead, Pamela Wilson of West Babylon and Tammy Coffey of Riverhead; sons Victor of North Carolina, Mitchell Coffey of East Patchogue and Kenneth Coffey of North Carolina as well as twenty-one grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 16 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Riverhead. A service, officiated by Rev. Charles Coverdale, will follow. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery on Monday, May 18 at 11 a.m.
