Thomas D. Reilly, 90

Thomas D. Reilly of Greenport died May 11, 2015 at San Simeon By The Sound. He was 90 years old.

Reilly was born on March 27, 1925 to Thomas and Charlotte Reilly in Brooklyn. He went on to attend New York Technical College.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45, during WWII through France, up to Germany where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. As a result of his service to France he was honored as a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor.

He worked as Art Director at Met Life, but his love for art was also a hobby he shared with all, creating Christmas cards for friends and family each year. His grandchildren also loved having art lessons at Pop Pop’s art table.

He moved from Merrick to retire on the North Fork in 1991. He was an active member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Knights of Columbus. He was well known for his putting personality and wonderful sense of humor. he enjoyed many activities like golfing, bowling and spending time with his family.

His son Matthew, son in-law Christopher Pekarek and sister Marilyn Raskopf predecease him. He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Greenport; his children, Janet Pekarek of North Carolina, Brendan of Amityville, Thomas of New York; daughter-in-law Jean Reilly-LoRusso and sister Joan Rockford of New Jersey as well as seven grandchildren.

The family received visitors on May 14, 2015 at Coster-Hepper Funeral Home. A service was held May 15, 2015 at St. Agnes Church. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Lustgarten Foundation or the New York Diabetes Association.
