Sophie Aschenbach of Riverhead died June 17, 2015 at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 88 years old.
She was born November 13, 1926 to Bruno and Josephine (Supronowicz) Lonski.
She married Robert W. Aschenbach on May 23, 1959. She worked as a secretary to county and Supreme Court judges at Suffolk County Court and New York State Supreme Court.
A member of the American Legion Auxiliary Riverhead Unit for more than 60 years, she served as both county president of the Suffolk County American Legion Auxiliary and district president of the 10th district of the New York State American Legion Auxiliary.
She served as president of the Queen Anne Chapter of Professional Secretaries International.
She was also a member of the Altar Rosary at St. Isidore’s Roman Catholic Church in Riverhead.
She is predeceased by her husband, who died in 2009, and her siblings: Joseph Lonski, Helen Lonski Guyer, Charlie Lonski, Stephen Lonski and Marta Matulewski.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews: Joseph Lonski Jr., Ann Musnicki, Stanley Golembeski, Steve Lonski, Michael Lonski, Patrick Lonski and Karen Brown.
The family will receive visitors Friday, June 19 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 20 at St. Isidore’s Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Isidore’s Cemetery.
