It’s time for local businesses to represent as they sponsor the Greenport mens’ softball league in some good-natured competition this season.
The league is comprised of eight teams, all sponsored by local businesses. Each team plays twice a week at the Greenport Polo Grounds, on weeknights, with either a 7 or 8:30 p.m. start time.
This week, during Game 1, Southold Fish Market beat WCVH Landscaping 24-9 “behind a pitching gem by Greg Cocheo,” according to Greg Morris. “Craig Jobes continued to hit for the Fish Market, going 3-5 with three home runs & nine RBIs on the night.”
During Game 2, Lucharitos beat Founders Tavern 17-14 for their second straight win. Ben Wenzel had a home run and an excellent play at shortstop, Morris said.
The hope, he said, is to spread the word, Morris said. “We have a nice turnout for games . . . we can make this league great again.”
