John J. Loetscher Jr., 80

John J. Loetscher Jr. of Hampton Bays died July 9, 2015, the victim of an automobile accident on Flanders Road. He was 80 years old.

Born Aug. 26, 1934 in Brooklyn, he was the son of John and Meta Loetscher.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956. He worked for more than 40 years as a journeyman lineman with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1249.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rierhead and enjoyed history, boating and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Maxine (nee Koch); by his children: Dorothy Roberts, Theresa Walker, John J. Loetscher III, Linda Lamb, Sandra Zegarelli, Tammara Mulhall, Jeri-Lynn Collins, Claudette Stevens and Troy Collins; and by his siblings: Rosemary Schofeld, Robert Loetscher, Rita Resling, Janet Weggland and Richard Loetscher. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 12 from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Middle Road, Riverhead. Interment will take place Monday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Legion.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home, Riverhead.
