Alan P. Tyler of Calverton, formerly of Centereach, died on July 16 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 79 years old.
Born on October 17, 1935 in Manhattan, he was the son of August and Lida Tyler. He married his wife, Lyn, on May 11, 1957 in Westbury.
He worked as a flight engineer for Grumman Aerospace and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, cooking and photography.
Predeceased by his brother, Bruce, he is survived by his wife and his daughter Kelley Smith of Whitestone.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery.
