Southold Town to bury time capsule in honor of 375th anniversary

Southold Town is going to tuck away some memories to preserve a slice of life in 2015 for future generations.

At its board meeting this week, the town board voted unanimously to grant permission to the 375th anniversary committee to bury a time capsule at 54545 Route 25, at Silversmith’s Corner by the gazebo.

The time capsule will be filled with items including flash drives from school projects completed this year in honor of the 375th anniversary, newspaper articles, an old cellphone, and other pieces of Southold life in 2015.

Meanwhile, townwide festivities continue, with Southold slated to turn out for a 375th Anniversary parade at 11 a.m. today to celebrate.

Last weekend, a regatta was held at the Orient Yacht Club to mark the 375th anniversary, and local schoolchildren have created a sea of projects focusing on Southold’s rich history.
