Officials: Mattituck house fire started in kitchen; no one hurt

Update: 10:03 p.m.: The fire is fully extinguished at the Marratooka Road residence. No one was home at the time the fire broke out, firefighters at the scene said. The fire is believed to have started in an oven that was left on, firefighters said.

There was damage in the kitchen; the fire went through the roof of the home, but the home was not gutted.

No injuries were reported, officials said.

Original story: Firefighters raced to the scene of a house fire in Mattituck tonight, as smoke engulfed the Marratooka Road residence.

As of 9 p.m., Mattituck and Cutchogue Fire Departments are on the scene. It is not immediately clear if anyone was home when the fire broke out; the first responders are still working to extinguish the fire, with heavy smoke conditions.
