Police: ‘Extensive damage’ after Mattituck house fire

A house fire in Mattituck last night left “extensive damage to the home,” police said.

2015_0827_Fire3According to Southold Town police, Mattituck Fire Department raced to the scene of the active fire, which broke out at 8:42 p.m. in the kitchen of the Marratooka Road single story ranch house. The fire was knocked down quickly, police said, with extensive damage to the interior of the home.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Mattituck was assisted  by Cutchogue and Jamesport Fire Departments, police said.

The fire is believed to have started in an oven, firefighters at the scene said.

Heavy smoke hung thick in the air as the fire ripped through the roof of the home, but the home was not completely gutted.
