Kait’s Angels teamed up with Yogurt Expressions in Mattituck today to raise money for a Southold woman battling lung cancer.
The yogurt shop, which is closed for the winter, opened its doors and donated its inventory for a “Yogurt Bowl” fundraiser to help Danielle Harrison-Meraz, who was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas.
Yogurt Expressions owner Sue Orioli reached out to Kait’s Angels in the hope of helping the group, founded to do good works in memory of Kaitlyn Doorhy, a Mattituck college student with a heart for helping others. Doorhy was killed in an accident while way at college in Connecticut in August 2014.
“We’re closed for the winter and I thought this would be a good way to use our inventory,” Orioli said.
Kait’s Angel’s cofounder Molly Waitz, Doorhy’s friend at Mattituck High School, had worked with Harrison-Meraz at Roy Reeve Insurance in Mattituck. When Orioli contacted Kait’s Angels, the group decided to host the fundraiser for Harrison-Meraz, to help defray her expenses.
Kait’s Angels volunteers helping with the event were: Orioli’s son Jim and daughter Gionna, William Arango, Joe, Darla and Carly Doorhy, Aileen Rosin, Lynn Kruaza, Molly Wiatz, Laurie and Jenn Italia, Beth Faith and Grace Shipman,
