Edward F. Hughes of Cutchogue passed away peacefully on March 12, 2016 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 72 years old.
Born in New York City Oct. 8, 1943, he was the son of Lawrence and Lillian Hughes.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a telephone switchman with Verizon. He was also a sailboat captain.
He was a member of Mattituck Lions Club and the Peconic Bay Sailing Association. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sailing and cooking.
Predeceased by his sister, Judy Hughes, he is survived by his children, Sharon Hilton of Greenport, Andrea (Doug) Hausler of North Carolina, Deborah (Ron) Lajda of Cutchogue, his brother Lawrence Hughes of New Jersey and sister Jane Sherlock of Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Victoria and Madison Hilton, Claudine and Andrew Hausler and John and Matthew Lajda.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mattituck Lions Club.
