Update: Power restored to Greenport after faulty PSEG supply line leaves village in dark for more than two hours

(Update 1:03 p.m.): Power has been restored to Greenport after an outage left the village in the dark for more than two hours Monday.

Power was restored at 11:48 a.m., according to PSEG spokesperson Elizabeth Flagler.

The outage was caused by a fault in the PSEG supply line to Greenport Village, Flagler said. PSEG switched the supply to another line to restore power to the village, she said, and PSEG is now investigating the problem with the faulty line.

Original story: All of Greenport Village is in the dark this morning due to an area-wide power outage.

A PSEG breaker tripped at around 9:30 am, killing the PSEG power supply line to the village, according to Mayor George Hubbard.

PSEG is currently on scene working to determine the source of the problem.

“We’re not sure if it was on our side or their side, so they’re trying to figure that out,” Hubbard said. “We’ll know what’s going on shortly.”

Residents are also reporting outages in cable and phone service due to the power outage.
