Kathleen L. Latham of Orient died peacefully in her home on April 16 at the age of 96.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on January 27, 1920, she was the second child of Kenneth and Elizabeth Moir Leslie.
The Leslie family moved to Montclair, NJ in the 1930s and Kathleen attended the Lincoln School in New York City, from which she graduated at the age of 16. She then attended Guilford College where she met her future husband George Ritchie Latham Jr. They were married in Montclair in May 1941.
Kathleen taught English, French and math at the Waldorf School in Garden City. Upon her retirement, she and Ritchie moved to their summer home in Orient where she began volunteering at Eastern Long Island Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband, her first son George Ritchie III, her sister Gloria, her brother Alexander her daughter-in-law Pat and her grandson Joseph, Kathleen is survived by four children, David (Linda), Priscilla, James and Zoë, her sister Rosaleen of Ottawa, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport on Friday, April 22 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. at the Orient Congregational Church.
