It was a chilly morning for a 90-minute tractor and hay wagon ride from Riverhead to Southold today, but it was for a good cause: to benefit Make-a-Wish.
The procession of more than 20 antique tractors made its way from the Long Island Antique Power Association’s barn in Riverhead to Erik’s in Southold for lunch, before heading back to Riverhead along the North Road. At the end of the procession was a hay wagon carrying local Make-a-Wish families.
Make-a-Wish is dedicated to granting the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Established in 1981, it has granted the wishes of more than 270,000 children in the United States and its territories. (Donate here.)
The L.I. Antique Power Association, founded in 1977, is dedicated to preserving Long Island’s rich agricultural past and educating present and future generations about the area’s heritage. It is located on a site just west of Hallockville Museum Farm on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
