Night-time lane closures on LIE begin Wednesday, April 27 through mid-summer

Beginning tomorrow night, there will be night-time travel lane closures in both directions on the L.I. Expressway between William Floyd Parkway (Exit 68) and Wading River Road (Exit 69) to allow crews to perform preventive maintenance work on a Long Island Rail Road Bridge.

Two out of three LIE eastbound and westbound travel lanes will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m, weather permitting, through mid-summer, the New York State Department of Transportation said today in a press release.

The work is “part of a multiple location $10.8 million project to help ensure the longevity of Long Island’s aging bridges and maintain the safety of motorists,” according to the DOT. The other project bridges include the Fifth Avenue Bridge over NY Route 27/Sunrise Highway in the Town of Islip, the LIE Bridge over Carmans River and the Wading River Road Bridge over the LIE in the Town of Brookhaven.

These closures are weather dependent and may be canceled or postponed due to inclement weather.
