Another Stony Brook first responder vehicle is now on the road on the North Fork to help supplement local EMS and fire departments.

The emergency medical services vehicle is staffed with Stony Brook Medicine paramedics as part of the First Responder Program, which brings first responder vehicles to assist local volunteer agencies – particularly during the workday.

Many volunteers at local fire departments work on weekdays, some out of the area, which can make it difficult for fire departments to rapidly provide response crews.

The EMS First Responder Program is a partnership between six North Fork fire departments and Stony Brook University Hospital to make sure they can provide response crews as quickly as possible.

This is the second first responder vehicle from Stony Brook Medicine on the North Fork, covering Greenport, East Marion and Orient. The other vehicle covers Mattituck, Cutchogue and Southold fire districts.
