The New Suffolk Waterfront Fund held its eighth annual Chowderfest this afternoon.

A crowd turned out to First and Main Streets in New Suffolk to enjoy six different locally prepared chowders and a full barbecue lunch. Chowders were provided by Braun’s Fish & Seafood Market, Case’s Place at the Galley Ho, The Frisky Oyster, Southold Fish Market and Wayside Market.

Tickets were $25, and were sold both in advance and at the event. More than 100 tickets were sold as of yesterday morning, according to board Vice Chair Linda Auriemma.

“We’re trying to raise money all the time to finish our mission here,” said Auriemma. “We restored the Galley Ho, because it was falling down after Hurricane Sandy. This property we’re on here is a public easement, so we want to make this nicer than what it is, a real family area.”

Kids under 12 got in free-of-charge. A variety of creative games and activities including face-paint, tie-dye and henna tattoos kept kids of all ages entertained for the afternoon.

Around fifty types of colorful perennials were on sale from Glover Perennials in Cutchogue. The fund also held a Chinese auction, 25 tickets for $10. There were around twenty baskets and eight gift certificates for the taking.
