John C. Scanlan, 76

John C. Scanlan of Cutchogue died June 12, 2106 in Eastern Long Island Hospital. He was 76 years old.

He was born in Copiague on August 9, 1939 to David and Jane Scanlan.

He graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1959 and Farmingdale College in 1972.

He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1961 to 1965 and worked for the Suffolk County Police Department for 20 years until he retired as a sergeant in 1985. He also owned and operated a charter fishing boat, ‘The Tuna,’ out of Orient from 1979 to 1988.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Suffolk County PBA, the Suffolk County Superior Officers Association, the Suffolk County Police Association and the Suffolk County Officers Association. He belonged to the Southold American Legion and the Riverhead Loyal Order of the Moose.

Predeceased by his parents and five siblings, he is survived by his wife Carol A. (Davidson) and 20 nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Costner-Heppner Funeral Home.
