Bicyclist, 84, airlifted after collision with truck on Route 48 in Greenport

An 84-year-old woman riding a bicycle on County Route 48 in Greenport was injured in a collision with a vehicle and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital this afternoon.

Southold Town Police said Rosemary Getwillig of Greenport was riding a bicycle eastbound on Route 48 when she ran into the side of a truck, operated by Aaron McGinness, 25, of Greenport, as the truck was turning onto Moore’s Lane from Route 48 at about 12:15 this afternoon.

Getwillig was treated at the scene by Greenport Fire Department Rescue and then airlifted to Stony Brook. She was experiencing difficulty breathing and suffered a laceration to her hand, police said.
