Lifeguards rescued an elderly man found unconscious in the water this afternoon at Founders Landing Park.

Southold Park District Lifeguard Sean Tuthill removed the man from the water after he was found unconscious, a victim of apparent drowning. Meg Tuthill, another lifeguard on duty, assisted him with CPR. They were also helped by two bystanders, Joseph Janketic and Donna McCabe, an off-duty EMT and an off-duty nurse, respectively.

Southold Fire Department, Southold Police and Stony Brook Hospital’s first responder unit arrived on the scene and continued CPR. The man, 82, soon regained a pulse and began to breathe on his own.

He was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for further treatment.
