Poker run takes off Sunday to help support Kait’s Angels’ ‘acts of kindness’

Kait’s Angels’ annual Poker Run will ride through town on Sunday.

The event, now in its second year, acts as a general fundraiser for the group, helping to pay for charitable acts throughout the community (like their recent donation of a Buddy Bench to the seniors at the Southold Human Resource Center).

The run is not a race in the traditional sense. Participants have three and a half hours to complete the course, with the only requirement being that they return to the start point, Breeze Hill Farm, by 3 p.m.

To win, “runners” compete by collecting a playing card at each of the pre-designated five to seven stops throughout the North Fork (to be announced), building a poker hand.

The game is simple: whoever has the best hand at the end of the event, wins.

All vehicles are welcome to participate in the event. Tickets are $20 for pre-registered vehicles, $25 for day-of registration, and include one hand as well as admission to an after-party with food, drinks and music.

Registration will be at Breeze Hill Farm from 10 to 11 a.m. Click here to pre-register.

Prizes, including cash, plaques and merchandise donated by local businesses, will be awarded to the best hands.

Kait’s Angels is a non-profit organization formed to honor the life of Kaitlyn Doorhy, the 20-year-old Mattituck woman who died in 2014 after a car accident at her Connecticut college. The group aims to approach life with Kait’s pay-it-forward attitude and acts of kindness in her memory.
