Mattituck-Laurel library budget passes with less than 100 votes cast

Mattituck voters approved the Mattituck-Laurel Library 2017 operating budget yesterday.

The budget of $1.42 million called for a 3.5 percent tax levy increase, which translates to an approximate annual increase of $13.20 for an average household.

It was approved by a vote of 73 to 8.

The 2017 operating budget includes:

  • hiring a new part-time computer coordinator to handle all of the library’s present and future technology needs
  • expanding Sunday hours beginning in the fall of 2016 so that the library will begin opening on the second Sunday in September instead of the first Sunday in October, and will stay open until 5 p.m. each Sunday
  • a modest increase to the materials and programming budgets
  • and an increase in health insurance, debt service and operation costs over last year’s budget.
