National Diabetes Awareness Month in the (blue) spotlight November 15

Peconic Bay Medical Center plans to be blue in November.

In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, the hospital is holding an evening of presentations and an expo on Nov. 15 before illuminating the building with blue spotlights.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. a vendor expo will take place with merchants specializing in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes products and support services. Information about personal training, device companies, wound care and nutrition will be available.

From 6 to 7 p.m. three diabetes specialists will lead presentations about various aspects of living with diabetes. Dan Phelan of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will speak about advances in research into the disease. Brett Ruffo, MD will talk about how to live a healthier lifestyle and Christine McDermott, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator will give tips about how to incorporate healthy meals into your lifestyle.

At 7:15 p.m. the hospital’s exterior will be bathed in blue lights. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue.
