Peconic Landing, which is in the final phase of its expansion, has donated a $20,000 gently used generator to Greenport School district, which it delivered to the school on Dec. 6.

“The school serves as an emergency evacuation center for the town, and this generator is going to enable critical areas to operate 24 hours a day in any given emergency,” Peconic Landing president and CEO Robert J. Syron said. “Now it will be a more complete evacuation center.”

The Kohler 230kw generator, which was used to power Peconic Landing’s Health Center, is 15 years old and has less than 600 hours of recorded use. It has been meticulously maintained, the company said. A second generator will be repurposed at Brecknock Hall, which serves as an evacuation site for Eastern Long Island Hospital. During Hurricane Sandy, Brecknock Hall sheltered 70 neighbors from the community, including ELIH patients.

“On behalf of the Greenport School community and the Board of Education, we are very grateful for this extremely generous donation for the health and safety of all of the students, staff, and local residents,” Greenport School Superintendent David Gamberg said. “This clearly is something that takes us to a whole other level of safety and we are very appreciative of Peconic Landing.”
