Jason Damianos of Mattituck, owner of Jason’s Vineyard in Jamesport, was killed in a head-on collision in Riverhead early this morning.

Damianos, 49, was eastbound on Route 58 in a 2007 Ford pickup truck, when he attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of a westbound Jeep operated by Savannah Lake, police said. The two vehicles collided head-on just before 6 a.m.

Both Damianos and Lake were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Damianos was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The accident is under investigation by Riverhead Town Police detectives and by a N.Y. State Police accident reconstruction team, police said.
