When you enter Boom! Burger at its brand new location in the Mattituck Plaza, the friendly enthusiasm and excitement of owners Anthony Cicogna and Anthony Catanzaro are pretty evident. On a Wednesday afternoon – the day after their grand opening – both men could be found behind the counter wearing Boom! shirts and ball caps, joking, laughing and greeting customers as they arrived.

Business partners since they opened the original Boom! Burger in Westhampton Beach in 2012, the very personable Catanzaro and Cicogna aim to feed you and make you comfortable, just like you were visiting them at their own homes.

“We’re two average Joes who like to eat and like to cook. We treat you like you’re at our house; that’s just the way we were brought up.”

Although famous for cleverly named burger creations, Boom! Burger also offers chicken wings, hot dogs, wraps, quesadillas, salads and dozen different sides. The “build your own burger” option offers guests the possibility for developing their own favorite burgers.

The restaurant, decorated with black and white checkered floors and lots of bold colors, features a large wall-mounted menu with comic book style lettering;  panels of pages from Captain Marvel, Batman and other comic books adorn the walls. There is no table service; customers place an order at the counter and wait for their numbers to be called. Drinks are self-serve and most orders take about 10 minutes to fill unless they are very busy.

Although the restaurant has a fun comic book theme, Catanzaro and Cicogna take what they do very seriously. For them, quality is a priority.

“Everything we use is fresh,” says Cicogna. “We have a butcher we’ve been using for over five years. He grinds the meat fresh every morning.”

And just who came up with the ideas for the Green Hornet Burger, The Bronco (a customer favorite, according to Catanzaro) and the dozen other named specialty burgers?

“We did,” says Cicogna. “These are recipes that Anthony and I thought of, basically whatever tastes good. What combination tastes good. There was a lot of trial and error and a lot of eating burgers.”

“We’ve grown the menu one by one by one,” adds Catanzaro. “And we have other burgers that come out for special occasions, like for Mother’s Day we have a burger called the Mammoni. It has spaghetti on top.”

Boom! Burgers also offers catering. Customers can order big boxes of burgers, fries or wings — a popular item at Super Bowl time.

It’s clear that Catanzaro and Cicogna want to make their customers happy. They are working on a system which will allow people to order online and have their food delivered. Their menu is affordable for most everyone; a single Boom! is priced at $3.99, wraps and chicken sandwiches are around $6 – $7.  “Burgers From Beyond” meals are $14.99 and include various sides and a drink.  There are also student specials.

Boom! Burger is located at 10095 Main Road, Mattituck next to the movie theater and is open 7 days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. 631 315-5555.
