Howard Dean, former Vermont governor and one-time chairman of the Democratic National Committee, spoke at Peconic Landing Monday night in what was billed as “an intimate, non-partisan discussion about the current state of American politics and the next four years.”
Dean sought his party’s nomination in the presidential election campaign of 2004.
As an audience of about 75 people – many were Peconic Landing residents – listened intently, Dean expressed his views in a mostly non-partisan lecture, discussing his opinions on the economy, the election and the future of America.
Dean applauded the younger generation, calling them “global citizens” and expressing his confidence in their ability to maneuver a future which many feel is uncertain.
He took questions from the audience on topics such as the assault on democratic institutions, sustainability and the lack of trust in the Democratic party.
The event was presented by Peconic Landing’s Lifetime Learning Speakers Bureau.
