Ice and snow accumulations make for hazardous travel, weather advisory extended through the afternoon

The winter weather advisory has been extended to 4 p.m. across Long Island.

Ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch is now forecast, as snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to continue through the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulations will generally be less than an inch, except across the north shore, where one to two inches is expected.

Travel will be hazardous due to snow and ice on the roads. Use extra caution if venturing out.

Temperatures will remain at or near freezing this afternoon, the weather service said.
