Have-a-Heart dinner to fund emergency services for local families in need

Community Action Southold Town, the Greenport-based organization which has been helping North Fork families since 1965, will host its annual Have-a-Heart fundraising dinner at Peconic Landing on Thursday, Feb 23.

Proceeds from this year’s dinner will go directly into CAST’s emergency fund; last year’s money helped CAST assist 33 families with such things as a scooter for a client with multiple sclerosis, college exam fees for students and a new mattress for a homeless client who had recently gotten an apartment.

“The money will be used for whatever may come up,” said CAST executive director Linda Ruland. “So far this year we’ve helped five families pay electric bills, fuel oil costs and rent.”

Peconic Landing is providing food and preparation for the entire dinner, enabling CAST to use nearly every penny of proceeds for its emergency fund.

“They are generous, gracious, pleasant and wonderful partners in this community,” said CAST board president Helen Finnigan. “Every year they come through for us. And the NJROTC will be there to work as servers.”

There will be two seatings for dinner, at 5 and 7 p.m. Dinner includes Caesar salad, lasagna (meat or vegetarian), garlic bread, coffee and dessert.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

Peconic Landing is located at 1500 Brecknock Road in Greenport.
