Rose Marie Siracusano, 85

Rose Marie (Mormando) Siracusano of Southold died surrounded by her family on March 11, 2017. She was  85 years old.

She was born in Brooklyn on November 8, 1931 where she graduated from high school a year early. She attended New York University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in management with a minor in economics.

At NYU she met her future husband Louis. Early in their marriage, they lived in Germany while he was stationed in the U.S. Army. After returning to Long Island, they spent weekends on the North Fork with their three children. She returned to school and earned a Master of Science in elementary education from Hofstra University. She taught school for 18 years before moving to North Carolina. She loved gardening and combined that with her love of education to become a Master Gardener before returning to Southold for retirement.

Predeceased in 2016 by Louis, her husband of 61 years, she is survived by her children Elizabeth S. Herkenham (William) of Charlton, New York, Lucille S. Drobet (Michael) of Cutchogue and Louis Siracusano of Southold, by three grandchildren, Carolyn Rose Herkenham, Robert Frederick Herkenham and Nikita Siracusano-Drobet as well as her brothers, Frank Mormando (Roseanne), Nicholas Mormando both of Boca Raton, FL and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on March 24 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on March 24 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck.  Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery in Southold.
