Once again music made by many musicians on a single 1961 Gibson J45 guitar will raise money in for Maureen’s Haven homeless outreach shelter.
This year more than 25 musicians — many who have played the One Guitar concerts before — will come together on the Vail-Leavitt stage to share their time and talents in a unique way. Each player will play the same guitar, passed from musician to musician during the concert. The idea began years ago as a lark during a gathering of a weekly songwriting group.
Many of the musicians are well-known local players including Mick Hargreaves, Kerry Kearney, and Doug and Marty Attridge. In a prior interview, event organizer Don Bracken said, “there is so much talent out here that people don’t really know about. I’m a big believer that it needs to be exposed.” And that talent certainly got lots of recognition as the original One Guitar concert ended up with such great music that it resulted in a double CD.
The One Guitar concerts have raised thousands of dollars for Maureen’s Haven and hopes are high that this year’s show will be just as successful as the past two — One Guitar and One Guitar More — have been.
The concert is scheduled for May 25 at 7 p.m. at the Vail-Leavitt theater. Tickets are $20 each. Click here to purchase tickets to the event.
