For the second year in a row, the American Legion grounds in Southold have been decorated with a colorful field of poppies as a tribute to those who have died for our country; the ribbons attached to the flowers were dedicated by loved ones in honor of veterans and active members of the armed forces, both living and deceased.

The oversized poppies were hand-made by Vietnam War veteran Joseph St. Pierre, a member of American Legion Post 803 in Southold, and members of the auxiliary and the legion. This year the field contains approximately 500 poppies; 450 of them are new and 50 were left over from last year.
