Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember and honor the more than 1.3 million Americans who gave their lives in service to our nation. Here is a summary of Monday’s ceremonies and parades on the North Fork:

– The Orient Fire Department’s annual Memorial Day parade begins at 7:30 a.m. at the firehouse on Main Road and will take Tabor Road, to Orchard Street, to Navy Street to Village Lane to Main Road and back to the firehouse.

– The annual Greenport Dockside Service and Parade will begin at 8 a.m. Participants will meet in the parking lot behind the Arcade at 7:45 and walk up Front Street and along Main to the dock, where Scouts will throw flowers into the water for remembrance. The event will be followed by refreshments at the Third Street firehouse.

Southold Town’s annual Memorial Day parade will begin immediately following the 10 a.m. ceremony at the American Legion, intersection of Pike Street and Wickham Avenue. It will proceed along Pike Street to Pacific Street, then along Main Road, ending at Mattituck Fire Department.

– In Riverhead, the Combined Veterans Committee organizes the annual Memorial Day parade, which steps off at 10 a.m. on Osborn Avenue at the corner of Pulaski Street. It proceeds down Osborn to Court Street for services and a wreath-laying ceremony at the World War I monument. From there, the parade continues east on Main Street to Roanoke Avenue, heads north on Roanoke to St. John’s Cemetery for another wreath-laying ceremony, then continues on Roanoke to Pulaski Street. After a wreath-laying ceremony at Riverhead Cemetery, the procession continues to the War Memorial on the corner of Pulaski Street and Osborn Avenue, where the day’s main ceremonies conclude. A ceremony follows immediately afterward at St. Isidore’s Cemetery on Horton Avenue.

– Memorial Day ceremonies at Calverton National Cemetery begin at 1 p.m.

Correction: The starting time for the Southold Town Memorial Day parade was originally listed as 11 a.m. as stated in the Southold Town Board resolution authorizing the parade. However, it will begin at the conclusion of ceremonies at the corner of Pike Street and Wickham Avenue which begin at 10 a.m.
