A solemn procession made its way down Main Road from Cutchogue to Mattituck this morning for the funeral of Jason R. Cooper of New Suffolk. Cooper died after being involved in an accident at his family home June 7. He was 47.

Over a hundred Air National Guardsmen and dozens of first responders lined the street as the fire truck bearing Cooper’s coffin pulled up to Mattituck Presbyterian Church.

Cooper was a lieutenant of the Cutchogue Fire Department and a member of the New Suffolk school board. He worked as an aircraft maintenance supervisor for the New York Air National Guard and was a military veteran.

He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Interment with military honors was held at the Cutchogue Cemetery.
