Harbor Pet donates to North Fork Animal Welfare League after grand re-opening

After a three-day grand re-opening celebration last weekend, the owner of Harbor Pet in Greenport donated $500 to animals in need at the North Fork Animal Welfare League.

Festivities began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick start the re-opening; owner Kimberly Loper was joined by Greenport Village officials, volunteers, trainers and adoptable dogs from the NFWAL.

On Friday, customers were able to view dogs up for adoption; special events over the weekend also included a pet portrait artist, Yappy Hours with giveaways and refreshments for customers and their pets, and an Ask the Trainer session with trainers from the North Fork School of Dogs.

Loper said she was happy to donate a portion of the proceeds from the weekend’s sales to the NFWAL. “We are so happy to give back to the pet community here on the North Fork of Long Island. And as the owner of two rescue dogs myself, I am so happy we had adoptable dogs from NFWAL here on Friday with us to celebrate and that we can donate to the shelter as well,” she said.

In addition, Loper said the goal is to team up with NFAWL and area pet experts for future events. “We are all in this together and it’s so wonderful to work with our community pet experts,” she said.

“We are truly grateful for the donation. We had a wonderful day on Friday and, hopefully, one of our dogs was adopted on that day. We look forward to working with KIm. She is a welcome blessing to our community and we hope to work with her in the future,” said Dawn Bennett, president of the NFAWL’s board of directors.
