New studio, Inspire Dance Centre, opens in Southold

A young woman who lives to dance is bringing her passion to students in Southold.

Meagan Loring is opening her new studio, Inspire Dance Centre, this month at 43375 Route 48, and has a vision, “to help each and every one of my students identify themselves.”

Dance, Loring said, instills “so much discipline in a person. They carry themselves with more maturity, they respect the art and others and they develop a sense of pride that is expressed in everyday life. I want to motivate the community and have them give dance a try. From ages three to adulthood, anyone can dance.”

Loring, who recently moved to the North Fork to be close to her family, spent time in Orlando, Florida after graduating Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts.

In Orlando, she danced with the Universal Studios Super Star Parade and was a member of the Orlando Solar Bears dance team.

“It was an amazing experience but I am very close with my family and my boyfriend’s family and missed them all,” she said.

Loring, originally from Kingston, Massachusetts, met her boyfriend in college and has been traveling up and down the East Coast since. But now, she said, she’s ready to set down roots.

“We both felt Long Island is where home is. And here we are,” she said.

Growing up, Loring felt dance helped to choreograph her future.

“I loved every moment onstage,” she said. “My mother brought me to plays on Broadway; I was introduced to famous choreographers and had the chance to take their master classes. Dance made me who I am.”

In high school, Loring’s dance teacher , Nicole Zapolski, gave her the opportunity to teach her own class — and set the stage for her life’s journey. The quote, “At that point, the applause of my students became more important to me than the applause of an audience”, which she’d first heard from a dean of dance at college, Joan Palladino, resonated.

Her studio, is aptly named: Loring hopes to inspire dancers — and said she’s found mentors in many places. “My dance inspiration comes from my students and the people I have come across in my life, long-term or even if for a brief master class,” she said.

While dancing in the Universal Super Star Parade, a half hour long parade brimming with “high energy and excitement,” Loring said she knew she wanted to work with kids.

“Seeing the kids’ and parents’ faces five feet in front of me as I was performing gave me such enjoyment. I saw nothing but smiles and joy — they had been looking forward to this parade all day. During one of my dance performances, we would have the chance to interact with the audience. I love bringing in kids or even teenagers to come into the parade and dance with me.”

While in Florida, Loring also taught 13 dance classes at Danzforce Extreme, a school that has garnered awards at national competitions.

“I had dancers from two and a half years old all the way to 18. Their passion for dance motivated me to become a better teacher then when I started in high school. I learned so much there,” Loring said.

Dance, she said, instills invaluable life lessons for young people. “Dance can offer a child more than you know. It is not just for girls, it’s for boys, too. The way your dancer will carry themselves and respect themselves is astounding. The character that is created and the maturity that comes along with it, will prepare your dancer for more than just dance class. Their school teachers will notice, their friends will notice, and especially, their family will notice.”

Open houses will be held on Monday, September 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 24 from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 27 from 8:30 a.m. until noon. Classes begin Monday, September 29. For additional information, go to inspiredancecentre.org.
