Hundreds turned out in Greenport Friday night for the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation’s Land & Sea gala, the kickoff to the 25th annual Maritime Festival.

The event featured an array of delectable offerings from local chefs, as well as spirits, wine and a new beer from the Greenport Harbor Brewing Company.

Greenport Mayor David Nyce reflected on the village in a heartfelt speech and said residents should take pride in a place that over 40,000 will come to visit this weekend to embrace for its longtime maritime traditions and all that it has to offer. He raised a glass to Greenport, “the best village on earth.”

Nyce appointed Paul Drum Mayor for the Day this weekend and also gave him a key to the village. Drum, when asked what he’d do as mayor, said simply, “Lower taxes.”

Also honored was Otto Schoenstein, for his philanthropy; he is the grand marshal of Saturday’s parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m.
