Power outages reported over entire Village of Greenport

Update, 11:25 a.m.: At the power plant Bob Marchica said power had only been partially restored as of 11:25 a.m. “We’re working on it,” he said. He said it had not yet been determined what caused the massive outage.

Original story: Residents were reporting widespread power outages in the Village of Greenport Thursday.

Southold Town police confirmed that there had been power outages “on and off” all monring

The whole entire village John Mantzopolous said the power outage had stared around 8 a.m. and affected the entire village. Businesses such as 7-Eleven were closed, and traffic lights were out, he siad.

“People were coming out to see if it was widespread or just in their isolate homes,” he said.

At Eastern Long Island Hospital, staff worked to keep operations running smoothly while power was intermittent. “We’re doing okay,” said Pat Pifpisa, vice president of patient care services. “We kept our generator on, just to be safe ,and are running it now simultaneously with the power, which is back on at the moment. It has gone on and off.”

Mayor David Nyce did not immediately return repeated calls for comment and no one answered the phone at Village Hall.
