Walter A. Delaney, 89

Walter A. Delaney, of Southold, New York, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the age of 89.

Delaney was born in the Bronx, New York in 1925 to the late Walter and Adele Delaney. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School, he served with the Navy, achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant during WWII. He then attended and graduated from Brown University. Delaney was an officer of the New York City Police Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1986 at the rank of Captain.

He married the late Margaret Major in 1951. Mr. & Mrs. Delaney lived and raised their family in North Babylon, New York before retiring to Southold. They were married for 60 years. Upon retirement, Delaney enjoyed boating, fishing, and golfing with his children & grandchildren, as well as travelling with his wife. He will always be remembered as a loyal, devoted, and loving father & husband. Walter will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Margaret.
He is survived by sons Richard of New York City, NY, Kevin of Darien, CT, Brian of Weston, CT, Walter of Garden City, NY, and Christopher of Clarendon Hills, IL; daughter Patricia Brown of Fairfield, CT; and 15 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the De Friest-Grattan Funeral Home on Sunday, June 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 52125 Main Road, Southold, New York. Interment will be in the Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, New York.
