(Updated: Aug. 11) A 20-year-old Southold  woman drove her vehicle into the water from the boat ramp at Founders Landing at about 5:45 p.m. yesterday.

2015_0810_mva_founders_2The driver was a young woman who was not seriously injured in the mishap, police said. She was able to extract herself from the vehicle, according to Southold Fire Chief Peggy Killian. She was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation, police said.

A Southold Fire Department dive team responded to the scene to ascertain whether anyone else was trapped inside the submerged vehicle. Divers went in and concluded that the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Rapid Recovery responded, towed the vehicle out of the water and to their shop, police said.
