The beauty of the North Fork has long been a draw to artists of all types. Images by three local photographers will highlight the region’s rural landscape and its maritime heritage in a show at the Suffolk County Historical Society opening next week.

In the spirit of Long Island’s rural and maritime past, “A Time Portal to the North Fork: From Riverhead to Orient Point” will feature documentary and fine art photography of the bucolic North Fork by local photographers Neil Scholl, Peter Dicke, and Wendy Polhemus-Annibell in the Weathervane Gallery. The photographs on exhibit will be available for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Suffolk County Historical Society. The exhibit will run through March 2017.

The opening reception will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

About the photographers
Neil Scholl is Professor Emeritus at New York Institute of Technology, where for 20 years he taught photography and graphic design. His work focuses on street and documentary photography and has been widely exhibited at galleries across the island, including Gallery North, Heckscher Museum, Montauk Lighthouse Museum, Water Mill Museum, and the Islip Art Museum.

Peter Dicke, an original member of Gallery 338 in Huntington, was introduced to the world of photography by his grandfather and, as a teenager, created his first black-and-white photographs with a Speed Graphic camera. Peter continues to develop his passion for image-making via digital photography, where his focus is on documentary and landscape images.

Wendy Polhemus-Annibell, a lifelong photographer, is a long-time resident of the town of Southold and a member of the East End Photographers Group. For nearly 30 years she’s enjoyed chasing storms and capturing that special North Fork light.
