Greek Bites opens in Mattituck Sunday

After weeks of anticipation, hungry diners hankering for souvlaki and gyros can feast in Mattituck as a new eatery, Greek Bites, opens its doors on Sunday afternoon.

The restaurant will open about 1 p.m. to serve its first meals, said owner Dimitra Laopodis. “We’re busy getting everything ready,” she said.

Laopodis said even before opening, residents have given the business a warm welcome. “Words cannot describe how happy we are to finally becoming part of the Mattituck community,” she said. “We’re very, very excited. We’ve been getting a very positive vibe from people who’ve been picking up menus and can’t wait to try our food.”

The North Fork, she added, already feels like home. “Everyone’s so friendly and so nice. We’re so happy.”

Greek Bites will be located in the Mattituck shopping plaza, where the former Big City Burgers and Atomic Wings was sited, and next to the movie theater.

Greek Bites, which has one location in Center Moriches, features homemade Greek specialties such as moussaka and pastitsio, stuffed grape leaves, eggplant dip, gyros, souvlaki, Greek salad,  and spinach pie, as well as chicken Caesar pitas, vegetarian options, burgers, salads and, for dessert, homemade baklava and an array of ice cream truffles. Laopodis said the menu offers “something for everyone,” including a kids’ menu.

Greek Bites also had a restaurant for a time in Southampton on County Road 39, but that business closed due to the “seasonal” nature of the area, according to owner Dimitra Laopodis.

The restaurant will be open year round and feature approximately 16 seats inside.

Greek Bites will also offer delivery service, for a $25 minimum, to areas about ten minutes away. The restaurant’s winter hours will be from Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. For additional information, call 631-315-5353.

“We’re very excited,” Laopodis said Friday. She added that the North Fork was a natural fit. ‘It was a good business opportunity for us, a good location. We wanted to expand.”
